Attachment: Clay District Advisory Committee Overview.pdf
Attachment: District Advisory Committee Application.pdf
Minutes:

There was lengthy Board discussion about the makeup of the committee and how the members will be selected.  Deputy Superintendent Diane Kornegay stated the purpose of the DAC is to create more stakeholder voices in the decision-making process. Following discussion, general consensus of the Board was that this committee truly be a citizen group.  The recommendation was for each Board member to select two citizen members from the schools within their geographic board district to total ten parent citizens, and for each Board member to select one business/community leader.  The Deputy Superintendent should serve in an advisory/facilitator role.  The revised application form will be brought back to the Board on the September meeting agenda and Board members should be prepared to make their nominations by the October board meeting.

59. D-5 Public Hearing to approve as advertised the 2015-2016 Code of Student Conduct
Attachment: 15-16 Code of Conduct.pdf
Minutes:

Chairman McKinnon opened the public hearing.

Speakers:

  • Erik Horning - (RHS student) spoke in favor of allowing tank tops
  • Renna Lee Paiva - regarding teacher referrals
  • James Otto - regarding uniforms

Following public input, the public hearing was closed.

Board discussion followed concerning the student dress code.  Mike Wingate, Director of K12 Academics, reminded the Board that the dress code was discussed at length last year and that the language being recommended was the result of these discussions.  In closing, the Board asked that the Student Code of Conduct come to the Board for approval earlier next year so it is approved prior to students' first day.  Mr. Wingate explained the delay is due to changes in legislation that impact the Code of Conduct.  Typically, districts do not receive language interpretation from the Florida Department of Education until late summer.
